We’re pleased to feature two new books on our MHS Library shelves written by one of our ASD parents, Sami Hermez (Professor of Anthropology at Northwestern University in Qatar). The first book, My Brother, My Land: A Story from Palestine, is a collaboration with Sireen Sawalha to recount her family’s story. The book blends oral history, memoir, and creative nonfiction to tell the story of one Palestinian family’s connection to their land and experiences across decades of military occupation. Their story confronts readers with the complexities of armed resistance, dispossession, and what it means to remain connected to a place.
In War Is Coming: Between Past and Future Violence in Lebanon, Hermez examines how people in Lebanon live with memories of past violence while anticipating the possibility of future war. Through everyday conversations and experiences, the book explores how political uncertainty becomes part of ordinary life. We’re grateful to Dr. Hermez for sharing his work with the ASD community. Both books are now available in our MHS Library thanks to Sami’s generous donation.

We’re excited to introduce the Little Free Library, now located in the main admin space! This new addition is designed to encourage reading and build community by sharing books.
The Little Free Library follows a simple concept: Take a Book, Leave a Book. Whether you’re looking for your next read or have a book you’d like to share, it’s open to everyone in our school community—students, staff, and families.
How You Can Participate:
Take a Book: Browse the collection and find something that interests you—no need to sign anything out or bring a book to take one.
Leave a Book: Have a book you’d like to pass along? Leave it in the library for someone else to enjoy.
Thank you for helping us build a culture of literacy and connection at our school.
